Cleveland Ohio Rocks

2016 is an interesting year in politics. Ohio is in the center of it all. With a governor running for President and Cleveland hosting the 2016 Republican convention, it seems to be at the heart of this year’s political engine. Ohio brings a lot to the stage. Our people are hard-working; there are great eateries and amazing food stores. Visit Heinen’s Grocery Store downtown, you will be blown away but the variety of food and the beautiful architecture.
To pull off an influx of 50,000 visitors during the convention requires Northeast Ohio contractors pull together to build new bridges, resurface roads, hotels and other ancillary and infrastructure projects. It is anticipated there will be direct spending of $200 million as a result of the convention, 1200 events around the Northeast associated with the convention will occur and 16,000 rooms have already be contracted by the host committee.
Preparation for this event has been a great boost to our general contractors who build and maintain our infrastructure. Builders, plumbers, electricians, iron workers, steamfitters, masonry workers all are working hard to create a wonderful week for visitors. This week will not only showcase the exceptional arts and entertainment Northeast Ohio has to offer but our hard working general contractors and builders work. As a part of the Ohio Contractors Association, we have watched our fellow members work hard to safely and efficiently meet the deadlines set forth for this convention. ODOT and the city of Cleveland has carefully planned upgrades and infrastructure projects to best help the traffic flow for the convention and in the future for its citizens. I have been to meetings where ODOT shares its vision and planning for new projects and road expansions. I am impressed with how many people have come together to rebuild the region.
Here are some statistics that may rock your world:
·         Cleveland added 4 new hotels in the past year.
·         16,000 hotel rooms have been booked and dorm rooms, homes, apartments are being rented for the week.
·         50,000 visitors will be here for the week.
·         8,000 volunteers are needed
·         $32 Million is being spent on the Public Square redesign. It is a beautiful space!
·         Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – You can rock with Kiss, Pink Floyd, Nirvana and more all in one building!
·         $200 Million should be spent in Northeast Ohio during the convention – cha-ching!

As a nation, we are watching these interesting political times. No matter what side of the fence you sit on, which side you part your hair on, or who you vote for… Americans come together to build a better place, improving roads, bridges and building. In anticipation of all the work our customers are doing Power Tool and Supply added new product lines like concrete sealers, epoxies, grouts from approved ODOT brands like ChemMasters, line striping paint, pavement marking paint to better service our road construction clients. Come visit us at our storefront in Youngstown, we’ll be glad to see you and share a cup of coffee with you!
