The mandatory dust collection and silica dust exposure prevention is now in effect. Contractors are asking for our help in becoming compliant. Are you using your grinder or drill outside or in a confined space? How many hours per day? There are alot of considerations to understand what it will take to be compliant.
How to become compliant? If you do not have a safety engineer on hand that can monitor the particulates in the air, there is some guidance. Osha has a great table and information on particulate exposure. Tool manufacturers like DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita, and Michigan Pneumatic have come out with great designs for dustless tool use.
Some of the tools have guards with brush rims, vacuums extraction which includes a vacuum that works with your tool to extract the dust and particulates as they are being created. There are now different vacuum filtered bags for dust disposal and more. Honeywell's respirators have cartridges that will protect your workers from organic, vapor and dust exposure. These different cartridges fit in a half mask and full mask. How do you know what to use? Well there are guides, testing that can be done and a respirator expert at Honeywell that will help us help you. Honeywell has actively created safety training from in person, online to mobile app.

Wooly Bear Caterpillar predictor of a cold wet winter? Are you ready?
The Wooly Bear Caterpillar
is a predictor many people including my grandmother used to determine how harsh
the upcoming winter might be. Have you noticed the amount of rust or black
bands this year? The prediction is a milder wet winter. Are you ready?
Power Tool and Supply is

MOMS’ WORK May,
2017
Happy Mother’s Day! Today I received a box of my
favorite oatmeal cookies. They were made by my friend Liz in Texas. This was
her amazing way of wishing me a Happy Mother’s Day. These delicious cookies
caused me to pause and reflect on women (more so Moms) who work. You see, I
sell tools to construction companies and manufacturers – typical non-traditional
workplaces for women.
Recently, an engineer for a construction company, Tara
and I talked about how we are seeing an increase of women on the job site. Hold
onto your hat man, less than 10% of workers in trades, safety and engineer
professionals are women on site. Something that is improving but we still need
to work on. I still walk onto a site occasionally devoid of women. I see a
growing acceptance of women in non-traditional roles. Why? Wage equality, job
equality, work force availability it could be one of or all of these reasons.
Following are some interesting statistics I found
while researching this topic. Also I am including some resources if you or your
daughters are looking for a non-traditional career. Now is the time! We are
building, repairing and growing at a pace not seen in decades in places like
Pittsburgh, PA and Cleveland OH. I
salute all working Moms – thank you for paving the way, setting the example and
encouraging a new generation in a new exciting field. To all the men that see the
potential in women and help forge a path to equality – thank you for supporting
us and being a trail blazer!

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is dedicated to serving our community, including those businesses contracting with state agencies and recipients of DOT funds. The Department's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program is designed to remedy ongoing discrimination and the continuing effects of past discrimination in federally-assisted highway, transit, airport, and highway safety financial assistance transportation contracting markets nationwide. Master your Disaster with Duct Tape
Did you know Duct Tape came from a mother’s idea? Aren't moms the best!

problematic for the soldiers and

My son drove by a car
in Ohio and sent me the picture of the
duct-taped car you see here.
It got me
thinking about all the repairs we use duct tape for. Once a plumber I hired
decided to use a margarine lid and duct tape to repair a large sewer pipe in my
basement about 15 years ago. It is still holding and saved me $100’s of
dollars.

I use the Gorilla glue to glue a lot of household items like a broken shelf in
the refrigerator, a broken vase and even a light switch cover. Once my border
collie had surgery and kept breaking the cone for her head. I got tired of
buying new ones and duct-taped the last cone she wore. You should have seen the
looks she got when we walked down the street. She was one taped up cone-head dog.
The

Power Tool and Supply announces they are Certified as a
Woman Business Enterprise.
Power Tool and Supply Co. an industrial tool and supply
distribution center and retail store located in Youngstown, Ohio, has been
certified as a business owned and controlled by a woman by the National Women
Business Owners Corporation (NWBOC), the first national certifier of women
Business Enterprises. Over 700 public and private sector individuals
participated in establishing the Standards and Procedures of this rigid
certification review. The goal of the certification program is to increase the
ability of Power Tool and Supply to compete for contracts at a national level.
“Certification provides a marketing opportunity for women
business enterprises to participate in outreach programs,” said Lisa Springer,
owner. “In addition, this program will enable us to develop relationships with
larger companies and create opportunities for future partnerships with them.
“NWBOC seeks to increase the ability of women business
owners to compete for corporate and government contracts,” stated Janet

In August 2015, I sold my IP and marketing collateral to another translations company in Atlanta, Georgia; a much more international city. This opened up new possibilities for me. Power Tool and Supply's owner Lisa Springer approached me about helping them spread the word about their company's status as a WBE (certified woman owned business NWBOC). Power Tool and Supply is 100% woman owned and a valuable resource for general contractors and manufacturers. We are supplying companies from Ohio and PA with any and all tools and supplies needed.
It is refreshing to be part of this progressive company, the power tools, drill bits, anchors, safety products (to name some of their inventory) are needed everyday by General Contractors, manufacturers, fabricators and more. From pneumatic drills, hydraulic presses, nuts to bolts to rebar, they have it. Best of all, her staff is as knowledgeable (let's hope I step it up here).
